Heading South.

It was always going to be a short season so there was no need for the pantomime of obtaining French Visas to extend our 90 day allowance due to the gift of Brexit, the gift that never seems to stop giving.

Our new mooring contract is such that we are required to be absent from Arzal for at least 2 months of the year.   The probable reason being is that it can be sold to visitors at twice the price.

So, on Monday 24th July at 0730 hours, 13 months since we were last at sea, we exited the lock and headed towards the sunshine.   To head south was the aim and as far as Bordeaux if the weather gods allowed us.

The weather forecast was one of four bad days and one good one with a repeating cycle over the next three weeks.   It seemed that the jet stream wasn’t behaving as it should but whatever we had it wasn’t as bad as the UK which was lost under an umbrella of dull grey clouds and almost continuous rain.

Piriac denied us access due to our depth which was curious because we spent a pleasant 3 days there in 2019!    Unphased, we just plodded along to La Turballe with its swanky new marina which had opened just two weeks earlier to see what delights this town had to offer ….
