A New Start

In order to preserve the fragility of a boat owner’s sanity, it’s important to work hard at reducing your ‘To do’ list so it resembles something manageable. The key word being ‘reduce’.    I have often used the phrase that boats are ‘on going projects’ and so I’m under no illusion that the list will ever be overcome.

To reduce the aforementioned, I have employed a variety of strategies which range from using a really tiny font, double column or just don’t bother writing one, but that’s not really the spirit.

With LJ back in the UK it was time to take stock and make her ready for her return to France and the onset of the Adventure of LJ part 2.   With nearly two years in a cradle in a relatively gentle environment of the River Vilaine and with no use, you would think that it she was as good as when she had been put to sleep.   But sadly, no, as unused components just seem to die.   Following a thorough examination, the items listed below either needed an entire replacement or some form of service to get them back to a working condition –

  • Radar
  • AIS
  • Electronic Wind indicator
  • Engine exhaust elbow and mounting
  • Bow thruster and engine start battery
  • Bow thruster control unit
  • Electric Winch control box
  • Water Filters, Joker Valves

etc. etc

So the pantomime started again.  Endless trips to the chandlers, daily deliveries from online shops and a week donning scruffy overalls whilst scrubbing, polishing and anti-fouling.

After all of this it seemed a shame to drop her back the water but that’s what happened and we start again…..
